ALL EYES ON BUDAPEST AS TOBI AMUSAN DEFENDS HER WORLD 100M HURDLES RECORD TODAY

Nigerians are waiting with bated breadth to see the outcome of the Womenโ€™s 100m hurdles event at the 2023 World Athletics championships holding today in Bufapest, Hungary.

Nigeriaโ€™s Tobi Amusan, who is the world champion, will be defending her title later in the day against a pack of world beaters.

Amusan on Wednesday, finished  first in Heat 2 of the semi-final with a time of 12.56s to book her place automatically in the final.

She beat Jamacian Achkara Nungent 12.60s and Dutch Nadine Visser 12.62s to win the heat.

However, Amusanโ€™s time in heat 2 fell far short from her challenger, former World record holder Kendra Harrison who won Heat 1 in 12.33s just as Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn took Heat 3 in 12.41s.

ahead of Nia Ali in 12.49s which means World record holder Amusan must improve her game to stand any chance of defending her title in Thursdayโ€™s final.

Amusan dazzled the world in the 2022 World Championship in Eugene, USA, coming first with a 12.40 (African record) before setting a new world record of 12.12 to smash the 12.20 world record set by Kendra Harrison in 2016.
